The 2026 Radical Cup Europe season heads north from Italy to the Ardennes for Round 2 at the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on the weekend of April 18–20.
Nestled in the forests of eastern Belgium near Stavelot and Francorchamps, Spa-Francorchamps has been a centrepiece of international racing since the early 20th century. The modern circuit measures approximately 7.0 km (4.35 mi) and features a fast, flowing combination of long straights and sweeping corners that put a premium on bravery, smooth momentum and aerodynamic balance. Iconic sections such as La Source, Eau Rouge/Raidillon, Pouhon and the Kemmel Straight define its character and test both car and driver to the limit.
As with many of Europe’s classic circuits, Spa’s weather is famously unpredictable — sunshine can quickly give way to rain, often with different conditions across sections of the track on the same lap. The Ardennes setting and forested surroundings add to this variability, making tyre strategy and adaptability key elements of success.
The last Radical Cup race at Spa was the final round of the 2021 season, held as part of the Radical Challenge UK calendar in October. That weekend featured close competition across the range of Radical models, lengthy practice sessions and a dramatic finale that capped the season before teams dispersed for winter.
Californian Gregg Gorski, made his first European race appearance in the recently launched Radical SR10, qualified on the second row and mixed it with the front runners, while long-time North American competitor Jim Booth returned from the US to contest the race in his Valour Racing SR8 alongside European regulars. Two-time Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup champion Larry ten Voorde also featured on the pace in a Radical SR8, underlining the diverse international entry that we can expect again for the 2026 season.
What to Expect
Spa typically produces exciting racing due to its varied layout and breadth of speed. The long uphill run through Eau Rouge/Raidillon and the subsequent Kemmel Straight will present a key overtaking opportunity, while quick-change corners such as Pouhon and Fagnes demand precise car placement and trust in grip levels.
Teams will also be preparing for the weather factor: sessions under mixed conditions could see strategic tyre decisions come into play. Light rain or early showers are by no means unusual at Spa in April, and managing Radical prototypes under such conditions will be a challenge for even the most experienced drivers.
Watch a lap of Spa with RJ Motorsport's Lowen Stephens as he passes multiple Porsche GT cars with ease.
Round 2 at Spa will be an early indication of which drivers and teams have the pace and resilience to contend across Europe’s diverse race calendar. As the championship progresses from the technical challenges of Mugello to the high-speed demands of Spa, competitors will be eager to score valuable points on this legendary circuit.
