The 2026 Radical Cup Europe season begins in spectacular fashion this March as the championship heads to Italy’s breathtaking Mugello Circuit for its opening round. Set in the rolling hills of Tuscany, Mugello provides a dramatic and technically demanding backdrop for the first chapter of a new campaign, as teams and drivers look to establish early momentum on one of Europe’s purest drivers’ circuits.
Located near Scarperia, north of Florence, Mugello Circuit is widely regarded as one of the most exhilarating and physically demanding circuits in the world. Measuring 5.245 km (3.259 miles) and featuring 15 corners, the track is defined by dramatic elevation changes, fast sweepers and a relentless flow that rewards confidence and precision.
Originally built by Ferrari and now a permanent fixture in international motorsport, Mugello’s layout is dominated by long, high-speed corners such as Arrabbiata 1 and 2, as well as heavy braking zones into San Donato at the end of the main straight. The combination of speed, camber and gradient places immense loads on both car and driver, making it an ideal venue to separate the field early in the season.
Mugello’s emphasis on medium and high-speed performance aligns perfectly with the core philosophy of Radical racing: lightweight prototypes, aerodynamic efficiency and momentum-based driving. Maintaining flow through sequences such as Luco–Poggio Secco and Casanova–Savelli is critical, while confidence through Arrabbiata can define lap time.
The circuit’s unique character has long been admired by drivers across categories. Reflecting on his own experiences at Mugello, Formula 1 Champion Lando Norris highlighted the circuit’s demands and its emphasis on pure performance:
“ The lowest gear we use is third, probably fourth, so it’s just very different, very abnormal… especially in qualifying, the Arrabiatas will be quite easily flat, which is impressive… this track is the pure performance and definition of what a car can achieve in such corners, such medium and high-speed corners.”
What to Expect from the 2026 Opener
As the first race weekend of the season, Mugello brings with it a sense of anticipation and uncertainty. New driver line-ups, fresh team dynamics and off-season development will all be put to the test on a circuit that leaves little margin for error.
With limited slow-speed corners and minimal opportunities to recover time, qualifying performance will be crucial, particularly given Mugello’s narrow racing line in high-speed sections. Consistency across sessions and the ability to manage tyres through long, loaded corners will be key differentiators as the field settles into the championship rhythm.
